Crystal clear waters, golden sands, lush forests and a favourable all-year-round climate makes Abel Tasman Coastal Track an essential inclusion on one's Abel Tasman National Park travel itinerary. As one of New Zealand's 9 'Great Walks', Abel Tasman Coastal Track features 54.4km of easy walking track that takes 3 - 5 days to walk. It extends from Marahau in the south to Wainui in the north and offers some of New Zealand's most spectacular coastal views. It takes you from cove to cove, through scented forest and around granite headlands. It is New Zealand's most popular tramp, catering to around 200,000 walkers every year. The Abel Tasman Coast Track is not a circuit track so you'll need some form of transport at both ends. However, with boat access available at several points, one is not forced to walk the entire track. With this in mind, plus the availability of Abel Tasman water taxis and shuttles, it allows you to choose from many day walks.
The presence of a number of businesses offering sea kayaking Abel Tasman-wide means that many visitors opt to kayak between walking the track. Swimming and snorkelling are also popular activities as part of this 'great New Zealand walk'.
